This time of year I'm usually a little blue and drawn to something warm. I’ve been tuned into this genre for a while, putting songs away as they catch my ear. I’m not entirely sure what subgenre these bands would fall under but you’ll note that there is a common thread. Start off on track one and you’ll gradually work yourself into a better mood.

The Cactus Channel / Stay a While
More Info from Last.FM
Trying to tune in to The Cactus Channel all night and then finally, out of all the interference and noise, comes the signal I’ve been looking for. Reverb-drenched guitars and heavy, ominous drums begin. A picture becomes clearer then disappears again. Then another. There’s no front-man. There’s no singing. There are horns, tape delay, organ and synthesizers. It’s a soundtrack to something kind of exotic, but not quite. Is there any method to this madness? From ground zero it’s hard to tell. Arc De Soleil / The Thief in Marrakesh
More Info from Last.FM
Arc De Soleil is one of the many monikers of composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Kadawatha. Inspired by his father's love for the Spotnicks and their soaring guitar-driven sound, Daniel grew up hearing his father play their songs on his homemade guitar amp. This early exposure to music shaped Daniel's own musical tastes and influenced his decision to become a musician himself. For Daniel, creating music for Arc De Soleil was more of a return to something very natural rather than being experimental. Read more on Last.fm more...

The Budos Band are an "Instrumental Staten-Island Afro-Soul" outfit recording on the Daptone Records label. The band has eleven members (up to thirteen members at times) who play instrumental music that is self-described as "Afro-Soul," a term and sound which - in a recent interview - baritone saxophone player Jared Tankel elucidates as, being drawn from Ethiopian music the band had been listening to that had a soul undercurrent to it, which the band then "sprinkled a little bit of sweet 60's stuff on top" of.
