(I figured I needed to appropriate a certain surname to get Kristin’s and Saunders’ attention.)
It was pointed out to me by some folks in my office that my last mix was a little heavy. I believe the wife of one Burnmixer ran screaming from the dinner table one otherwise quiet evening in Amherst. I toned it down this time around.
After the first round of mixes, I found myself formulating a musical identity for everyone. Granted, you can’t really judge a person’s preferences from one mix, but it seemed like everyone had a distinct musical personality. No mix felt like any of the others.
So, as I was sorting through all the contenders for the MarchMix, I began to think things like “I bet Kristin would dig this,” or “John should hear this.” Basically, I had each of you in mind—or at least the musical identity I’d formulated for each of you. There are songs on here that I specifically thought Noah might like. There are ones that I guessed Saunders would appreciate. There are some that I thought John should hear. There are some that I’m hoping Kristin will love. There are some that I want to hear Joe’s opinion on. There are also quite a few that are all me.
And there are probably some songs you’ll hate.
The trick is: I’m not telling which is which.
And maybe that’s why I’m not going to include much explanation below with each track. It’s all worth hearing, all worth considering. But then again, I suppose everyone thinks that about their mix, so bring on the trashtalk.
After all that explanation, just think of it as an album. It’s all designed to work together—a beginning, a middle, and an end. It’s about right now: hopes, dreams, politics, TV, and water.
It’s a “Kuhntagious Revolution.”
