Dirty Whispers

76 / September 2016 / Noah Kuhn

This mix started off with a slew of slow songs, which grew increasingly difficult to slot in with the stuff that came after. It ended up being a little front-loaded, tailing off into the quieter sounds towards the back. It also took me up until the last day to finalize everything. Normally I'm ahead of the game, ready with weeks to spare. Not so this time. Quite a few songs came to me via YouTube videos, so I'm including some embeds of those for your viewing pleasure. Hope there is something to enjoy for everyone.

  6. The Cave Singers / Strip Mine

Damn, I love this riff. Stupid simple, and bordering on repetitive, but every time it comes on I feel myself swaying. Might be Cave Singers' third Burnmix appearance?

  7. Courtney Marie Andrews / Irene

Once you're past the obvious Joni Mitchell vibe of her voice, this is a hell of a catchy tune. Found myself humming it randomly and that's usually the sign that a song is going on my next mix.

  10. Maggie Rogers / Alaska

Heard this song via Pharrell on a Youtube video a few months back before it was released and it's just super catchy, had to include it. The video is worth a watch. I think his comments at the end are kind of lame, but watching him throughout, and more so watching her watch him is awesome. If the embed doesn't go to the right spot, scrub to 18:15.

  13. Lindsey Buckingham / Bleed To Love Her (Instrumental)

I've been watching the show "Roadies" and this plays over the opening credits of one of the episodes, as well as later on when Buckingham guest stars for a few minutes. Just a hypnotic rift. I actually had to record it off my TV as it doesn't exist anywhere else. Thus you'll hear some random noises over the guitar.

  16. Gordi / Can We Work It Out (Piano Version)

I think this was the first song that made it onto the mix. Her voice is just so unique and cool. The actual recording is more upbeat and poppy. While it's also good, this is what I heard first and I think it has more punch.

  17. Mitski / Your Best American Girl
