I started collecting songs for this mix back in November - adding and deleting as the months went by. Songs came and went - but only the best survived repeated listenings and aural scrutiny. It's mostly new stuff - with a a smattering of recents. The base is Americana with international inflluences from South Africa, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey and Tennseess (yes - Tennessee feels like it could be a foreign country sometimes) woven in. I finally culled this mix down to 14 songs in recent days - and I hope anyone listening enjoys each and every one of them.

John Leventhal / That's All I Know About Arkansas
I LOVE this song. From John Leventhal's first album (Rumble Strip) at the ripe age of 71 - even though he has been playing, producing, writing and recording music for his entire life - and winning 6 Grammies along the way. This song has some of THE tastiest guitar playing I have ever heard - and the drumming is right behind it. Oh....and he sings this song with his wife (and co-writer), Rosanne Cash - recorded during the pandemic in their home studio in NYC.

Mark Knopfler / Two Pairs of Hands
Mark Knopfler's distinctive guitar style and sound has been consistent since his rise to fame with Dire Straits and "Sultans of Swing". I remember listening to that song on the radio while stripping plaster out of our house in 1978. He's never made a Burnmix - until now.

Olivia Dean & Leon Bridges / The Hardest Part
The studio version of this tune is nice enough - but when Ms. Dean (25) teams up with Leon Bridges for the live video version, it's off the charts. Accompanied by only a base and keyboard, their voices sweep and soar in stunning fashion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujjf3nnIUCQ

Rayland Baxter / Strange American Dream
This song kept falling out of contention, then back in again. I had to keep it. Love the lyrical imagery - and the bridge that seems go to some completely unexpected places before resolving back into a Beatle-esque finale.
