58 - March 2015

58 / March 2015 / John Kuhn

This mix has just been a constant weeding out process of things I've been listening to the last six months.  I wish I could say there was a theme or a reason, but there isn't.  It's just good stuff, at least in my opinion.  There is a mellow vibe overall, maybe indicative of the way I've been feeling this winter.  There is little dissonance, so perhaps it's a reaction to Pere Ubu coming into my life.

I do hope you'll listen all the way through.  I think two of the best songs on here are the last two.

I hope you enjoy it.  Happy Burnmixing!!

  4. Panama Wedding / Uma

At Grogan's Happy Hour departure we discussed "guilty pleasures" in music. This is one for me. I feel like I shouldn't like it, but i do. I still haven't tired listening to it, and the chorus - "Uma" - is an earworm of a hook.

  5. Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings / You'll Be Lonely

This song's for you, Bryn. I feel like I'm in high school when I listen to this song. It's new, but has an old school feel to it that I love. Vocals with an attitude and funky horns abound.

  6. Eric Clapton / Sensitive Kind

This tune has been in the mix from day one. It's such a simple 16 bar blues progression, over and over, but has such a wonderful vibe. I have been listening to this song for months and never get tired of it - such a sweet groove - spare and simple.
